Netball Tournament

On Wednesday after school the Netball Team went to play the West Area Tournament at Lady Barn House School.

We got off to a winning start beating Cheadle Catholic 2-1 with goals from Charlotte.

The next match Hannah and Emily both scored as we won 6-0.

We carried on the good form into the third match winning 2-0 with goals from Catherine and Suzie.

Having won the first three games we needed one more good performance to lift the trophy. We made a good start with Georgina shooting us into the lead but with 2 minutes left the scores were level at 2-2. Then Greenbank scored to go ahead…..but with time running out Lauren held her nerve to equalise and earn us a draw…..which meant that Hursthead were the champions!

The team all got medals and were then awarded with a huge shiny trophy – which is now sitting proudly in Mr Foden’s room (come and have a look!)

A big well done to the girls who took part and were victorious, whilst playing in a fair and positive manner.

The team was; Charlotte, Emily, Lauren, Suzie, Catherine, Georgina and our captain Hannah.

Well done – all the hard work in training paid off!

Mr Foden :)

On Friday 6th November in tricky rainy conditions the Blue Dolphins led by Erinn played the Red Tigers captained by Caitlin. It took until the second quarter until the first goal was scored, Erinn carefully aimed to give the Dolphins the lead half way through the game. In the third quarter the Red Tigers pressed but were unable to score and Ollie managed to score a goal for the Dolphins to give them a 2-0 lead going into the last quarter. The fourth and final quarter was very exciting with goals and with the last bits of daylight all but disappeared! Charlotte carefully shot to give the Dolphins a 3-0 lead but then the Red Tigers came back with shot after shot and good passing moves. Firstly Caitlin scored and then shortly after Maddy scored another before the time was up. It was an exciting and enjoyable way to end what had been a productive training match. A BIG WELL DONE to the players from both teams who braved the conditions to improve their game-play;

Red Tigers;

Caitlin, Sophie T, Sophie R, Hannah H, Hannah S, Maddy, Rachel L

 Blue Dolphins;

Erinn, Luke, Ollie B, Charlotte, Emily W-K, Elosie and Daisy

Final Score: Blue Dolphins 3 -2 Red Tigers

Well done both teams!

Last Wednesday the A-team played a nail-biting match against Greenbank, the team was:

Sian, Georgina, Ollie, Charlotte W, Catherine, Hannah and the captain Caitlin.

This was our first match against another school and in the first two quarters we ended up level at 3-3. In the third quarter Greenbank took the upper hand despite some galiant efforts by Hursthead. In the final quarter we scored two brilliant goals but Greenbank’s experience proved the decisive factor as they edged out a close and exciting game 9 – 6. We look forward to another enjoyable match with Greenbank where hopefully we will get the chance to turn the tables!

A big thanks to Caitlin for this match report.

Mr Foden

Keep practising that shooting action!

What a season!

The Mayor of Stockport came to the last Saturday race of the season to present us with trophies and medals – more than any other school.

The boys’ and girls’ teams from Year 3&4 won all 3 cups as well as individual medals and our trophy cabinet is now bulging. Tha older teams won cups too so well done to all.

Keep running over the summer so we do just as well next year.

November 2008

 Our Year 6 team had great fun at a coaching session hels at CHHS and run by their Year 10 Sports Leaders, some of whom were our past pupils!

The following week, we took part in a tournament with other local schools. There were some easy matches and others that were fast and furious but we managed to win every one with all of the squad playing superbly and in a very sporting manner. Medals and certificates were presented at the end.

Well done to you all!

Our first race of the season was a great success with team wins for the younger boys and girls. Over 60 children from all year groups met at Gatley on Saturday 20th September to run in the Manchester Primary Schools’ League. It was not really cross country weather – it was hot and sunny but we didn’t mind.

Everyone did their best and represented school very well indeed. The results were read oput in assembly on Monday morning and lots of our runners will receive certificates soon.

Well done to all!

This huge event was held in Flixton last Friday in blazing sunshine. Our basketball team were representing Stockport against Manchester, Oldham, Trafford and Tameside and as all the Mayors were there, the car park was full of very smart cars!

Nine different sports were played and all the children warmed up to a cheerleading chant on the big field. Then we played our matches, coming third at the end. Unfortunately, Mrs. Grimshaw missed most of them as she had to take RH to hospital with a broken thumb. TV cameras were there filming for 60 years of the NHS so perhaps they wanted to be celebrities!

We had a great day so thanks to the parents who drove us there and to Big John for coaching us.

What a Team!

On a glorious sunny evening at the beginning of July, our enthusiastic Rounders squad took on the might of 6 local schools in the West Area tournament. We won all  matches in our pool with magnificent fielding and ruthless bowling from our own MSB. Then we met Greenbank school in the final. They had won all their pool matches too so we were in for a tougher challenge but we managed to win 25 points to 7. This wonderful performance protected our unbeaten record which has lasted since 2003.

No pressure for next year then!
